Building a Nuclear Weapons Free World: 2025 Lecture

From left to right: Carlos Umaña, Marion Birch, Cordelia Vesely, Jake Atkinson

On Saturday 1st November, we were delighted to host an evening lecture from Dr Carlos Umaña, at St. Ethelburga’s Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in London. In memory of one of Medact’s founders, Dr Martin Hartog, we welcomed Medact members, health workers and students to a lecture and conversation reflecting on how we can achieve a nuclear weapons free world. The recording of this event is now available to watch back.

Building a Nuclear Weapons Free World

We were privileged to host a conversation between Dr Carlos Umaña, Cordelia Vesely (Students for Global Health) and Jake Atkinson (Tax Justice UK) – chaired by Marion Birch (Editor of Medicine Conflict and Survival). Together, they explored the urgent need to strengthen our campaigning movement, build closer connections and coalition with movements dedicated to climate justice, anti-militarism and anti-imperialism, and the challenges and opportunities for growing the movement for nuclear disarmament.

If you’d like to find out more about our campaigning work for a world free from nuclear weapons – join the next open meeting of the Nuclear Weapons Group, or email our Peace and Security Campaign Lead ([email protected]).
