How we win

Medact’s Organisational Strategy 2025–2030

We work to challenge the root causes of health inequity by confronting the material conditions that harm health. We see campaigning as a form of care, and solidarity as a form of prevention. We build power with communities, not for them. We aim to create a world in which everyone is able to live healthy, dignified lives, supported by political and economic systems that centre health justice.

Our work is most effective when we:

  1. Organise with impacted communities – centring the people most impacted by health inequity and being led by their demands for change
  2. Tackle challenges the health community bears witness to – drawing attention to health impacts, resisting harmful practices and building power as workers
  3. Connect everyday health impacts to root causes – making health inequity visible, relatable, urgent and something people feel like they can change

We have developed a framework using these three approaches to make strategic decisions about where to focus Medact’s time and resources, targeting Priority Areas in which health workers and impacted communities can most effectively organise together for health justice.

Medact's Priority Area Framework

What does this look like in practice?

  • Medact’s movement of health workers organises alongside impacted communities to build a united power base to win health justice
  • We support local organising campaigns that shift power and resources so people have control over their health and the health of their communities
  • We make harmful policies and practices unenforceable or untenable
  • We unite local organising efforts through national campaigns that amplify wins and push for wider systems change
