We need a strong NHS, safe and affordable housing and investment in social care, not the looming threat of nuclear annihilation.
On the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the UK government is spending tens of billions on “defence”. This is a sobering betrayal of history’s lessons. While communities in the UK and abroad go without safe housing and functioning health and social care systems, it is both egregious and dangerous to be pouring public money into militarisation.
The UK continues to purchase arms from and sign contracts with American arms companies, the same arms used in the genocide in Gaza and wars worldwide. We owe the health workers on the frontlines and impacted communities more than thoughts. We owe them building real peace and security in the form of health and social services, and an end to state complicity in wars through contracts and private investments.
It is now or never for a safer world. This Hiroshima Day, we’re asking you to donate to support our movement – one rooted in solidarity and collective care, led by health workers, a movement that is committed to building a world free from nuclear violence, where dignity, health and justice come first.
