Professor John Yudkin

Professor John Yudkin is a clinical academic with a range of research interests in diabetes, obesity, pharmacoepidemiology and global health. He spent 4 years working in Tanzania as a junior doctor and, for the last 30 years, has been involved in work on improving cost-effective use of evidence-based health care. He was Director of University College London’s International Health and Medical Education Centre and he founded the International Insulin Foundation, a small NGO advocating for improved care for people with diabetes in low income settings. John is involved in analyses of management strategies for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in low income settings, using qualitative research methods to describe barriers to healthcare delivery, and quantitative approaches, including modeling, to compare approaches to risk factor management in type 2 diabetes. He collaborates productively with investigators in the US, India, Mozambique, Brazil, Australia and elsewhere. John has been involved in the Lancet Palestine Health Alliance since its inception, and has collaborated with others in Medact on issues of torture and access to health care in the occupied Palestinian Territories. He is also a Trustee of Medsin.
