Harry Rutter

Harry Rutter is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He leads a project for The Health Foundation on new approaches to public health evidence, and the evaluation of the Healthy Schools London programme within the NIHR CLAHRC North Thames. He teaches on a range of subjects including complex systems thinking, obesity, and climate change.

He was founder director of the National Obesity Observatory; led the establishment of the Department of Health National Child Measurement Programme (http://tinyurl.com/dhncmp); and is a core contributor to the WHO Health Economic Assessment Tool (HEAT) for Walking and Cycling (http://www.heatwalkingcycling.org/).

He has a long track record of local, regional, national and international work on environment and health, especially the relations between active travel, physical activity, public health, built environment, and sustainability. He uses complex systems approaches, and techniques such as health impact assessment and health needs assessment to identify and implement solutions to difficult public health challenges.
