Feryal is a multidisciplinary researcher with a background in political science, cultural studies and ethnography. She specialises in working with children and young people and has worked extensively with refugees and internally displaced people.

Feryal is interested in the role that cultural and institutional processes play in the life chances of marginalized individuals and groups. She holds a BA in International Relations and an MSc in Political Science from SOAS and a PhD from the University of Westminster. Her doctoral project investigated the politics and discourses of childhood in Palestine.

Feryal has lived and worked in a  number of different conflict-affected and fragile states and has personally witnessed the devastating effects of war and violence. She is passionate about demilitarisation and disarmament and coordinates the Peace and Security programme at Medact, developing research papers and policy positions on topics such as drone warfare, child soldiers and the refugee crisis.
