David Powell

David leads NEF’s environment programme, which focuses on fisheries, energy, food and the delivery of sustainable jobs in green industries.
He joined NEF in March 2016 having spent almost ten years at Friends of the Earth, working first on transport and then leading their work on economics. He has had particular focuses on fossil fuel subsidies, the circular economy, and how to get the UK Treasury more focused on sustainability. He’s also worked for Cruelty-Free International, for example campaigning against animal testing for household cleaning products.
Dave has an MSc in Business Strategy and the Environment and a graduate diploma in economics, both from Birkbeck College, and an MA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh.
Outside of NEF Dave is a songwriter and a keen runner, neither of which he’s phenomenally good at but he reassures himself it’s the taking part that counts.
