Ariana Fernández

Ariana Fernández Mphil, M.A, E.MA worked on investigations of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in Iraq and the Balkans for international criminal tribunals. She has graduate degrees in social anthropology and political science from the University of Cambridge, Université Catholique de Louvain, and the University of Padua. Her academic and applied focus today is on social justice and inequities in health. Her PhD research at the University of Toronto focuses on understanding and explaining why different communities in Central America produce starkly distinct rates of adolescent pregnancy. Her research takes a political economic and health perspective to explain adolescent motherhood, which is a proxy for gender power differentials, ideas of the place of females in society, the perpetuation of poverty and variations in human development.
