SUMMARY:Don't Bank on The Bomb! UK – National Network Meeting June 2025
DESCRIPTION:At Don’t Bank on the Bomb UK\, we are building a nationwide movement to pressure banks and financial institutions to withdraw their support for the nuclear weapons industry\, by demanding they move their money away from companies that manufacture and trade in weapons of mass destruction. Join our second network meeting on Tuesday 3rd June 2025 to hear about the incredible organising that has happened on nuclear divestment and campaign developments. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions about the campaign or this event\, get in touch with Zahraa\, our DBOTB Project Coordinator: zahraakapasi@medact.org. \n\n\n\nIn a world ablaze with escalating conflicts\, global instability\, and worsening humanitarian crises\, the threat of nuclear weapons to human life is mounting. And yet\, every year\, billions of pounds flow through UK banks\, pension funds\, and other financial institutions that invest in companies producing nuclear weapons\, making the threat of nuclear war even more real.  \n\n\n\nAt Don’t Bank on the Bomb UK\, we are building a nationwide movement to pressure banks and financial institutions to withdraw their support for the nuclear weapons industry\, by demanding they move their money away from companies that manufacture and trade in weapons of mass destruction. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re an experienced activist or just learning about the issue\, Don’t Bank on the Bomb UK is the perfect place to join others committed to building a safer\, nuclear-free world.  \n\n\n\nJoin our third network meeting on Tuesday 3rd June 2025 as we spotlight how campaigns across movements are using divestment to drive change\, and how we can support each other in our calls for accountability. We are excited to be joined by guest speakers from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign\, Demilitarise Education and Green Future Wealth Management\, who will share their experiences of campaigning for ethical finance and institutional accountability.

SUMMARY:Alternative Training on Prevent
DESCRIPTION:It is possible to create a society in which our collective safety and wellbeing are prioritised. Developing trusting\, healthy relationships between patients and health workers is essential to this work. However\, the Prevent Duty – with the government’s stated aim of identifying “vulnerability to radicalisation” – compromises all of this.  \n\n\n\nAs we’ve outlined in our work\, Prevent is a source of harm and increased marginalisation\, particularly for Muslim and racialised communities\, as well as those with mental health conditions.  \n\n\n\nSo\, why is the NHS the only healthcare system in the world with a legal obligation to engage with such a strategy? What aren’t you being told about the harms of Prevent in safeguarding training? \n\n\n\nJoin us for this series of Alternative Training on Prevent to learn more\, and find out how you can add your voice to the movement to end the Prevent Duty. Together we call for #CareNotSurvelliance! \n\n\n\nThis event is particularly aimed at people who work or are training in\, study\, or who have worked in health – though everyone from our movement for health justice\, interested in learning more\, is welcome! If you have any questions or concerns ahead of this event – feel free to email me\, sarahlasoye@medact.org.

SUMMARY:Mould is Political Screening – Sheffield
DESCRIPTION:Over 2 million people in the UK are living in homes with black mould – a serious risk to their health and wellbeing. But it’s not tenants who have gotten us into this situation –  it’s politicians. For too long\, politicians have prioritised landlords’ wealth over people’s health. Now\, we’re saying: enough.A new film from the Homes for Us alliance\, Mould is Political\, shows the impact of black mould on one family\, and how ordinary people are coming together to demand change. Here in Sheffield\, far too many people are living in cold\, damp and unsafe homes – making them sick and causing constant stress\, all due to political failure and profiteering landlords. \n\n\n\nJoin Medact Sheffield and Sheffield Tenants Union for a screening of Mould is Political\, followed by food and a discussion about the issues people are facing here in Sheffield\, and how health workers\, tenants and community members can come together to organise for decent\, safe housing for all.
