As tensions between the nuclear armed states of India and Pakistan continue, little attention is being paid to the effects of war between the nations means for the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir Valley, which has not known peace since the British-mandated partition in 1947, has seen a rise of human rights abuses in the past few decades and is now suffering from a crackdown from Indian government forces, increasing tension and fear amongst people. We urge the international community to centre Kashmiris in their thoughts and actions, as the most vulnerable people in this 70 year long conflict.
