End the cycle of violence: 270 health workers take action against UK DSEI Arms Fair

,

We sent our letter protesting the DSEI arms fair to the UK Secretary of State for International Trade Liz Truss on 3rd September – co-signed by 270 health workers.

The letter urges the UK Secretary of State for International Trade to stop supporting arms fairs such as the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI), and to stop granting licences for the sale of arms to countries complicit in mass human rights abuses.

The UK is the world’s second largest exporter of arms, with a recent judgement in the Court of Appeal deeming its sale of certain arms to Saudi Arabia that were subsequently used in the war in Yemen to be unlawful. DSEI is one of the world’s largest arms fairs, with arms companies such as BAE Systems ‘exhibiting’ their wares to representatives from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Israel.
