Politics, Power, Poverty and Global Health

Medact Director, David McCoy, was recently involved in an online discussion about the politics of global health initiated by Professor Solly Benatar from South Africa, and involving Professors Gorik Omms from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Ron Labonte from the University of Ottawa in Canada. The series of articles bring together the inter-connected global challenges of poverty, climate change and inequality, while noting the troubling challenges posed by Trump and rising xenophobia.

Benatar’s initial commentary is followed by responses from Labonte, Ooms and McCoy, and then by a final comment from Benatar.

The articles are well worth reading and point clearly to the need for organisations like Medact to exist.
