The most important impact of a hostility in which about one percent of the world’s inventory of nuclear weapons was fired would be a global famine; food production would be so devastated for about ten years that at least a billion people would die, and the rest of the world – even those in non-combatant nations – would suffer greatly. According to more recent analyses from IPPNW in 2013, the lives of two billion people would be at risk.
