Nobel Laureates call for negotiations to begin on banning nuclear weapons

Nobel Prize Laureates have joined the many others who are calling on the United Nations to begin negotiations on a new international agreement to ban nuclear weapons. At the United Nations in New York,  governments are now preparing to vote on the resolution that would mandate the start of negotiations on the new treaty.

In a statement released by International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, the Nobel Laureates add their voices to the call for governments to vote in favour of the resolution.

The dangers posed by nuclear weapons are utterly unacceptable, and the only sure way to prevent an unthinkable catastrophe is to eliminate them completely.
