'Fit to be Detained' Challenging the detention of asylum seekers and migrants with health needs' by BID. The report is based on the cases of 13 adults and 3 children with health needs, held in UK prisons and Immigration Removal Centres for periods ranging from 40 to 720 days (an average of 250 days). It includes findings of a report on the health and medical needs of immigration detainees by the independent humanitarian medical agency Médecins Sans Frontières.
A study of asylum seekers with special needs (April 2005) This report documents the findings of a survey of asylum seekers with special needs. The overall aim of the study was to find out about their general health status and special needs, and highlight the range of issues that are not being addressed by the current support system.
Charges for Overseas Visitors for HIV/AIDS treatment - Health Select Committee Since our report, the Government has introduced changes to the regulations relating to charges for NHS treatment for overseas visitors in an attempt to combat 'health tourism'. This now means that people who are in the country without proper authority, including illegal immigrants, failed asylum seekers and visa overstayers, will be charged for all NHS treatment.
